The continued discouragement of discernment still presents as a major stumbling block for me in terms of the church. Christianity has a rich history of encouraging sound discernment and elevating its devoted in education and intelligence. History is filled with Christianity producing great thinkers like C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, G.K. Chesterton, and Dietrich Bonhoeffer to name a few.
However, it seems that in today’s period, the church goes out of its way to castigate and ridicule any sembalance of critical thought as if one of the preconditions is to leave one’s reasoning at the door before entering the sanctuary, which of course Christianity demands no such thing.
Instead, it seems that a large portion of mainstream Christianity is interested in promoting what sounds spiritual and yields an emotive high instead of encouraging its congregation to use what is resting in our skulls that the Good Lord saw fit to bestow in the first place.
The church and mainstream Christianity will continue making victims of con-artists by staying on this trend.
