For through the Law I died to the Law, so that I might live to God. Galatians 2:19

For through the Law I died to the Law, so that I might live to God.

Galatians 2:19

As believers we have been saved by grace through faith in Christ… and not by keeping works of the Law. As Christians we are identified in every way with the Lord Jesus - He identified with our sin, so that we could identify with His righteousness. He became sin for us so that in God’s eyes, we would be considered to be as righteous as Christ Himself

The Lord Jesus was not condemned by the Law… for the condemnation of the Law is upon the sinner. Jesus was not ‘alive’ to the condemnation of the Law - but rather through His righteousness He was ‘dead’ to the Law. The Law had no power over our sinless Saviour - for His righteousness rendered Him dead to the power of the Law and unaffected by its deadly consequences.

However He became sin on our behalf and was condemned to death on our account. Christ’s death was not as payment for His own sin… for He was the sinless Son of Man, but His death paid the penalty for my sin and for yours as well.

As believers we were saved by grace through faith in Christ… and at the moment of our Salvation, the Holy Spirit of God placed us into the Body of Christ - He baptized us into Christ and we become one with Him and identified with all He is and all He did at the cross.

The moment we were redeemed we were positioned IN Christ and identified with all that He did at Calvary. Indeed, so close is our identification with our Saviour that His ‘death to sin’ and the ‘death to to Law’ became our ‘death to sin’ and our ‘death to the Law’.

Christ’s righteousness rendered the strength of sin and the condemnation of the Law as powerless over Him - and as believers we are positioned in Christ and identified with Him. In Christ we are also dead to the Law and detached from all its shocking condemnation.

His death to sin and His death to the Law became our death to sin and our death to the Law, for there is NO condemnation to those that are in Christ Jesus. And we have been raised up together with HIM into newness of life - HIS life within us. His Spirit indwelling our body. His victory has become our victory - victory over sin and death and the Law.

Our identification with our Lord Jesus Christ is eternal, irreversible and binding… and so we can say with confidence, I have been crucified with Christ… His death became my death…His life became my life and His victory became mine. Having died to the Law through my identification with Christ means that sin can no longer be counted against me and the Law can no longer be used to condemn me.

My identification with Christ means that I died with Him and arose with Him, and the life I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself for me - so that I might no longer live for myself, but live for God, to His praise and glory, for ever and ever.

Heavenly Father, thank You that I am identified with Christ by grace through faith in His death, burial and resurrection. Thank You that in Him I am dead to the Law and removed from its condemnation, having been clothed in His eternal righteousness. I humbly submit that I have no righteousness of my own, but only that which comes through faith in Christ. Praise His holy name, AMEN.
