People often wonder if God ever speaks and can we hear what he is saying? And the answer is YES. The voice of God can be heard, but you have to sit still, step away from the noise and distractions that surround you each day and have a heartfelt desire to sit quietly with Him.
You see, God Speaks In Whispers and when you relax your mind and “Be still and know that I AM God.” (Psalm 46:10) before Him, then and only then can you truly hear Him.
His voice is soft and never forceful. He won’t shout above the cacophony of your life and will speak to you according to how He knows you will understand. Hearing His voice may not happen all at once, but when you begin to embrace this special time with God you’ll experience Him right there with you.
God often speaks through His Word, and that’s why reading the Bible daily is extremely important because His spirit will illuminate what you read. Search out passages that resonate with your current situation and reflect on how they might apply to your life and you will be presently surprised how just the ‘right’ verse or chapter is answering the question you are asking.
Prayer is another key way to invite God to speak to you. Start with a willing and humble heart asking for wisdom and guidance and pray daily expecting God to communicate to you.
Patience is important because His answers only come at a time when you are ready to receive them - not a moment earlier or later. He is right on time, but the ‘patient part’ is trusting in His timing, and not your own.
Lastly, hearing God is not just about listening; it involves being obedient to what He has told you and acting on His guidance. When you sense God’s direction, respond in faith. It is your obedience that deepens your relationship with Him and you will become aware of how it increases your sensitivity to His voice over time. .
Friend, ultimately hearing God’s voice grows from a close, ongoing relationship with Him through being still, opening your heart and heading the leading of the Spirit through the Word of God and prayer.
