As we are coming up on the Passover season, I wanted to share how Christ is significant in the story of Passover.
- It reminds us we were once slaves who have been set free. Like the Israelites were set free from slavery in Egypt, we have been set free from slavery to sin.
- It’s a reenactment of that divinely ordained journey from slavery to freedom and keeping that memory and experience alive is essential to faith.
- It required the blood of an unblemished lamb to protect them from death. It was a beautiful rehearsal of Christ our Passover lamb being sacrificed for us who’s blood now protects us from eternal death. Christ was crucified at the time of Passover, he was perfect just like the lamb for Passover had to be and not a single bone was broken.
- Eating unleavened bread reminds us to rely on God. Leaven is also symbolic for sin. A little leaven in the dough will eventually affect the whole loaf just as sin affects our lives.
Passover is a beautiful festival through which God shows us his plan for redemption and when we keep it, we keep that experience alive in our hearts and minds.
