Is there any explanation as to why the people of Sodom welcomed Lot and did him no harm as opposed to the two angels ? If they were xenophobic (or lacked hospitality), why did they receive Lot the foreigner and if they were homosexuals and rapists, why didn’t they attack Lot in the same way when he got there ?
Did they just tolerate Lot because of his wealth ? Or did they perceive the angels as enemies, probably spies, because of the war that happened not long beforehand ? Or were they so evil that they just felt hostility towards the angels (maybe led by the evil spirits that possessed them or gathered by God for judgement) ? Any opinion on this would be welcome.
