“This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,” declares the LORD. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life. Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it for the mouth speaks what the heart is full of agood man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. The Lord will give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, but your Teacher will no longer hide Himself—with your own eyes you will see Him. And whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear this command behind you: “This is the way. Walk in it.” So you will desecrate your silver-plated idols and your gold-plated images. You will throw them away like menstrual cloths, saying to them, “Be gone!” To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death and the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you for you ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’ “Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.
