Both are true, we must repent in order to receive his gift. Jesus said go and sin no more and he meant that for each of us. Repent, accept his gift by accepting Him and be baptized with His Spirit.
Both. Jesus paid the penalty for sin which is death, for ALL the sins of the world. That can be seen as (corporate) forgiveness. When we repent and believe, we are receiving His grace through faith alone. (Personally receiving) that forgiveness.
