What does it mean for Christians to be in the world but not of the world?
Bible gives two meaning for the word “world” literally it means this physical earth but spiritually it means “the system of Satan who is god of this world” so Christians we live on this earth but we are not belong to Satan’s system
we live with unbelievers but we don’t follow their method of living
We are called to be “in” the world but not “of” the world. This notion is consistent with the teaching of the New Testament, even if it isn’t a direct quote:
John 15:19
If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you.
John 17:14-16
I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. I do not ask You to take them out of the world, but to keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
